Welcome to the Cattleman’s Corner.
I’m Brian Hale sitting in for the late Howard Hale as we continue his legacy of speaking with cattlemen and women from around the globe.
Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle are well known throughout the beef industry for their maternal strengths and superior growth. With attributes such as more pounds of calf weaned, added fertility, greater cow herd longevity, and heavier carcass weights, just to name a few, Gelbvieh and Balancer offer genetics that work for the commercial cattle business. Visit Gelbvieh.org.
We have the BVD heritage sale coming up. That’s the Blue Valentine and Driftwood Heritage Sale. Years of research, selection, breeding, and knowledge have come together to give the public a unique chance to purchase prospects, riders, and breeding horses.
That’s the Blue Valentine and Driftwood Heritage Sale, September 9th through the 13th with online bidding only. Visit that website BVDheritageSale.com Website by Hale Multimedia. Now here’s JD Lowing on pasture rotation.
Typically, I like to go about three weeks or longer between them. Pretty easy. Set it up so there’s a water trap and the cows go down there.
I can go down, take a dog down, and have them all moved in a matter of minutes with one person and have them into the next pasture. And it does improve weight gain on calves. I’ve seen that for about the last three years now.
It will add pounds just doing the rotational grazing and the longevity of the pastures. You got the same amount of acres, but the longevity of it. You know, you get some rain or even if you don’t, typical years, you can probably almost get almost another 30 days of grazing out of the same amount of acres by doing the rotational grazing.
Splitting one big pasture up into three different pastures and just moving them around like that. We don’t graze anything super intense. Blunt South Dakota breeder JD Lowing.
That’s going to do it for today’s program. Thanks again for listening and may God bless. I’m Brian Hale.
