The Choice of Truth

From The Voices and The Choices by Roxanne Parks on YouVersion

So where is my solid ground in this shaky world? Where is the truth? My solid ground is not found in the opinion of my neighbor nor in my ability to perform well. It is certainly not in the headline news whirling around in our world these weeks! The news speaks of difficult stories, political battles, wars, suffering, unrest, uncertainty, disaster, violence, and evil. This information can leave us feeling overwhelmed with fear or worry for our children and for our future. Is this the truth?

Perhaps the most famous verse about truth in the Bible is what Jesus said “… I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 NIV)

John 17:17 – Sanctify   them by the truth;   your word is truth.

So Jesus is truth and Jesus is also the Word (John 1:1, 14).

Psalms 25:5 – Guide me in your truth and teach me,  for you are the God of my salvation;  I wait for you all day long.

He is our guide. As Christians we believe that every word in the Bible is true.

Psalms 119:160 – The entirety of your word is truth, each of your righteous judgments endures forever.

This is the foundation upon which we live our lives. We need to know what the Bible says about truth. We need to hide God’s word in our heart to help us to know when we are listening to the Voice of Truth.

Psalms 86:11 – Teach me your way,  Lord, and I will live by your truth. Give me an undivided mind to fear your name.

Sometimes we just need to turn off our phone, our computers, our TV, and listen to the voice of the One who matters most. His Truth breaks through all that confusion and mess. Let us take every wild, stray, off-track thought captive and make it obedient to the Truth, which can finally set us free. He offers His peace and assurance that no matter what, He still holds all things in His hands. He’s not anxiously pacing Heaven’s floors thinking up a Plan B since Plan A didn’t work. He reminds us that He’s still in control and is the security of our days.

“And He will be the stability of your times, A wealth of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; The fear of the LORD is his treasure.” Isaiah 33:6 NASB

I still love the old hymn about Jesus being the “solid Rock upon which I stand”. Jesus is the Rock that won’t move or budge. He won’t shift this way or that based on popular opinion as His Word is the same yesterday, today and forever. He won’t ever sink or give way to defeat. He is sure and safe, loving and gracious, forgiving and faithful, powerful and strong. His words are the Truth, bringing life and freedom. I am inviting you to rest on the Rock of truth today and always. This is your only solid ground in our shaky world.

Ponder:

Where is your source of truth? Does it provide for your solid ground yesterday, today and forever?

Prayer:

Lord, help me meditate and know Your truths. I want to stand upon Your solid ground in this crazy mixed-up world.
