I’m Brian Hale, sitting in for the late Howard Hale as we continue his legacy of speaking with cattlemen and women from around the globe. Visit gelby.org. Today we’re talking to Dylan Biggs of TK Ranches. Last year somehow we got a lot of rain and there are round bales all over the country. Southern Alberta had a really good year and it’s not often that you see guys in that slot.

It hasn’t been for a long time that you’ve seen guys in that country list and feed for sale. Yeah. My son likes to do small squares, tries to get it really high quality so he can feed the horse market and he’s had a terrible time getting it up without rain on it.

He’s got some cow-calf people around that the cows will take care of that rained on feed, do really good, his price is down. He lucked out and got a couple of quarters, parts of two circles anyway, of alfalfa and grass and the guy didn’t need it so he was able to go get that and bale it up and get it under a shed. He thinks he’s died and gone to heaven.

Is there any irrigation in your area? No. You’d have to go about 30 miles south. When they built Sheerness Power Generating Station for the cooling water, they actually pipe it up from the Red Deer River, that’s about 30 miles south where that generating station is, south of Highway 9, just on the east side of Highway 36.

They bring that up to the cooling pond and then there is some irrigation run off that, but not a lot. That’s going to do it for today’s program. Thanks again for listening and may God bless.
