HUSA Aug 24 2026 – Eric Wolgemuth

Welcome to the Harvest USA Report.

I’m Brian Hale. An original production of Howard Hale Broadcasting, now expanded throughout North America. Talking to Eric Walgemuth.

Is it Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania? So, with the wheat that’s down, do you have to put lifters on your headers, or can you… We have MacDon flex scrapers, and we can rake it up pretty good. But if the ground, it rained, and the ground got kind of muddy, so you’d have trouble sliding along the ground. It’s so mellow.

Oh, yeah. And it would push dirt. But, you know, we sort of walked away from some of that, letting it dry out.

And we’ll get back into that. Pickup reels seem to do a fairly decent job. Yeah, I mean, I really, I think it’s as good as… You can shave the ground, but then the pivot tracks are a challenge.

Oh, yeah. Do you go round and round in arc, or do you go north and south, east and west? Well, generally, like if it’s laying down, facing to the north, we’ll kind of go east and west, and try to hit it so we can cut both directions. I mean, it just depends.

Some of this ground doesn’t have bad tracks in it. The sandier it is, the better it is. Dealt with it for years.

It’s just part of the deal. And that Idaho Falls area, there’s plenty of sand there, I think, isn’t there? Yeah, there’s some areas that are quite sandy, and then some that’s not. I mean, it’s kind of all over the place.

But it’s great for growing potatoes, and that’s what makes this world go round in this country. All about the potatoes. Wheat for rotation.

Yep. And you can mill it into flour and make chocolate cake with it, right? I keep quoting Bill Cosby. He’s giving chocolate cake to his kids for breakfast.

His wife came along and took exception. We can go, well, hey, chocolate cake’s made from flour, which is made from wheat. That’s good.

And so she sent him to his room, which is where he wanted to go in the first place. Pennsylvania Custom Harvester, Eric Wolgemuth, with our co-host, David Woodruff. That’s going to do it for today’s Harvest USA.

Thanks again for listening, and may God bless. I’m Brian Hale.
