From Unshaken by Nancy Azeez on YouVersion
There is so much chaos in our world today that, at times, it can feel overwhelming just to turn on the television or scroll through social media.
As believers, it can be especially heartbreaking to witness suffering, uncertainty, and unrest all around us—almost as if God is not in control. But we know the truth: He is, and He always has been.
My prayer is that this devotional will lead you into the peace of God and strengthen you to stand firm, no matter what surrounds you.
Jesus reminds us in John 16:33 (NIV),“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Life may not feel easy right now. You may feel stuck between a rock and a hard place, or struggle to find the strength to face the day. In the midst of it all, God is inviting you to receive His peace. Choose stillness.
Psalm 46:10 (NIV) says,“Be still, and know that I am God…”
God has not forgotten you. He sees everything—your pain, your needs, the bills that are due, the countless resumes sent without response, the savings that seem to be running low, and the uncertainty about tomorrow.
He sees the weight you carry, the challenges in your relationships, the waiting seasons that feel prolonged, and even the turmoil happening around you. And in the middle of it all, He gently calls you: be still.
Luke 12:25 (NIV) asks,“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?” Worry cannot change your situation, but surrender can transform your heart. God may not move in the timing or way you expect, but His presence never leaves you—even in the fire.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7 ESV
Reflection Prompts:
- What specific situations or sources are currently feeding anxiety in my life?
- What thoughts have I been agreeing with that contradict God’s truth?
- What would it practically look like for me to “be still” today?
- Am I reacting to chaos, or responding from a place of trust in God?
Declaration:
I silence anxious thoughts and choose the stillness of God’s presence today.
