Traffic Stop Adds More Charges

(GERING, Neb.) — A traffic stop on 10th Avenue led to felony drug charges against a man who was also wanted on an outstanding Nebraska Department of Corrections warrant.

On May 25, 2026, a Scottsbluff police officer stopped Gomez near 1700 10th Avenue. A background check confirmed Gomez had an active Department of Corrections warrant for a parole violation and a weapons charge.

During the traffic stop, a police K-9 alerted officers to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Officers found 10 blue pills marked “M30” and suspected to contain fentanyl in the glove compartment.

The discovery resulted in a Class 4 felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. Gomez was also facing extradition on the existing state warrant.

Gomez reached a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to an amended charge before Judge Dobrovolny. He was sentenced to 10 days in county jail, with credit for 10 days already served. The sentence was ordered to run concurrently with a state prison sentence he is currently serving.

The court waived court costs because of Gomez’s indigency and assessed a $300 fine on a second count.

Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
