Seat Swapper Charged for DUS

(GERING, Neb.) — A Gering man pled guilty in Scotts Bluff County Court after allegedly switching seats with a passenger during a traffic stop September 18.

Cresencio Alberto Castillo, 28, pled guilty to driving under suspension, a Class 3 misdemeanor.

According to an affidavit filed by Scottsbluff Police Officer Jacob Weatherman, officers observed a white Hyundai Sonata fail to stop at a four-way stop at East 17th Street and 11th Avenue at about 10:06 a.m.

When police activated their overhead lights, the Hyundai pulled into the 1600 block of 14th Avenue. The officer observed a woman exit from the passenger side while the male driver, later identified as Castillo, moved into the passenger seat.

A records check showed Castillo’s driver’s license was suspended. He was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center.

Castillo was released on his own recognizance. Sentencing was scheduled for November 19 at 8:45 a.m. in Room 1 of Scotts Bluff County Court.
