Garage Knife Fight Brings Charges

(GERING, Neb.) — A 43-year-old local man faces multiple felony charges following a late-August knife incident that left another man severely injured.

According to court documents, Christopher J. Murrillo was arrested early August 25 after officers responded to a report of a bleeding man near East 15th Street and 9th Avenue. The victim suffered a severe laceration to his left hand that required immediate medical treatment at Regional West Medical Center and multiple surgeries.

Investigators allege Murrillo cut the victim with a butcher-style knife during an argument in a garage in the 1700 block of 9th Avenue.

Murrillo is charged with:

• First-degree assault, a Class 2 felony
• Use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, a Class 2 felony
• Possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, a Class 3 felony

Murrillo waived his preliminary hearing September 23, and the case was bound over to District Court for arraignment October 2. He remains in custody on $150,000 bond.
