Box Truck Pursuit Ends in Arrests

(GRANT COUNTY, Neb.) — Two occupants were taken into custody Oct. 17 after a box truck allegedly failed to stop for law enforcement while traveling on the wrong side of the highway and speeding on Nebraska Highway 61, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began near mile marker 142 on Highway 61, where Grant County deputies attempted to stop the truck for the reported driving violations. The vehicle allegedly failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens and continued south into Arthur County.

The Arthur County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the vehicle’s location and direction of travel. An Arthur County deputy positioned a patrol unit ahead of the truck in an effort to intercept it, but the vehicle drove around the patrol unit and continued southbound.

Arthur County deputies were able to get ahead of the vehicle and deploy stop sticks, bringing the truck to a stop near mile marker 129 on Highway 61.

Authorities conducted a felony traffic stop and took both occupants into custody without further incident.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Arthur County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol and Keith County Communications for their assistance.

The sheriff’s office did not release the identities of the occupants or specify whether charges had been filed.
