(GERING, Neb.) — A 23-year-old Texas man wanted on a felony child sex offense warrant has agreed to be extradited back to Texas following a court appearance Wednesday, Oct. 14 in Scotts Bluff County Court.
Abel Savan Mendoza, of Midland, Texas, appeared via video stream before County Court Judge Kristen D. Mickey on a charge of being a fugitive from justice.
Court records show Mendoza was wanted by the Midland County Sheriff’s Office in Texas on an arrest warrant issued Sept. 28 charging him with indecency with a child, a felony offense. Bond on the Texas warrant was set at $150,000 cash or surety.
Mendoza was taken into custody in Scotts Bluff County on Sept. 29.
During Wednesday’s proceeding, Mendoza waived extradition and agreed to voluntarily return to Texas to face the pending charge. Judge Mickey signed an order on the waiver of extradition in open court and remanded Mendoza to the custody of the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff to await transfer to Texas authorities.
A status hearing on the extradition process has been scheduled for Nov. 20 at 11:30 a.m. in Scotts Bluff County Courtroom 2 in Gering, Neb.
