(GERING, Neb.) — Just weeks after an arrest warrant was issued in a pending child abuse case involving him, 29-year-old Dante R. Aleman was jailed again over the weekend, this time facing a felony drunken-driving charge and weapons-related misdemeanors following a traffic stop in Mitchell.
Aleman, of Torrington, Wyoming, was pulled over at approximately 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, after a Nebraska State Patrol trooper observed his red Dodge Durango fail to signal a lane change on Highway 26.
According to court documents, troopers noticed open Coors Banquet beer bottles on the floorboard and smelled alcohol on Aleman. He refused field sobriety tests and chemical testing, according to the filings.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded handgun concealed inside the center console, along with a yellow THC vape pen.
State Patrol records indicated Aleman has two prior driving under the influence convictions. He now faces the following charges:
- DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 or greater or refusal, with two prior convictions — Class IIIA felony
- Carrying a concealed handgun while under the influence — Class III misdemeanor
- Carrying a concealed handgun without disclosure — Class III misdemeanor
- Refusal to submit to chemical testing — misdemeanor charge or charges, according to court records
Aleman remains in custody at the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center on $35,000 bond. Scotts Bluff County Court Judge Kristen D. Mickey scheduled his preliminary hearing for Monday, Oct. 26, at 11:15 a.m.
