Rescued from the Mud

(LAKE MCCONAUGHY, Neb.) — Keith County EMS was dispatched to assist Nebraska Game and Parks with a rescue of two hunters that were on foot and dangerously stuck in the mud, west of Van’s Lake View at Lake McConaughy late Friday night / early Saturday morning.

KC-EMS responded with one ALS ambulance for standby and one command unit equipped with a thermal drone.

While Game and Parks were launching their airboat, the thermal drone was used to locate the two individuals and assisted the boat into position for the successful rescue.

“It’s opening day for waterfowl and the lake is a beautiful place to be for this! We are urging all hunters to use extreme caution navigating these areas, especially west of Van’s Lake View due to low water, and dangerous mud conditions.”

We recommend keeping your phones with you at all times, head lamps and or other sorts of lighting that can be seen from a distance.

We always encourage life jackets!

If you’re in a boat and get stuck, be very careful exiting the boat as you could easily be over taken by mud and water without the ability to escape.

Call *55 or 911 if you need help.

Be safe, enjoy your hunt!
