From Dennis Gruber

We are thankful for the help of our police department in investigating the crime scene and ask for the help of our community in apprehending these thieves before others fall prey to them. Thank you in advance for any help that can be lent in this horrible situation. May God bring vindication to His church.

Alliance Fire Excels

(ALLIANCE, Neb.) — According to the new ratings from the Insurance Services Office, Inc., The Alliance Fire Department is among the top 15 percent of fire departments in the country and the top 3 percent of fire departments in Nebraska regarding fire suppression capabilities.

In addition to making the Alliance area residents feel safer, the higher rating can translate into more affordable property insurance.

“A lot of challenging work went into achieving this newest rating. It was a team effort put forth by our firefighters and Alliance City Council, City Administration, and Alliance Rural Fire District board members,” said Alliance Fire Chief Troy Shoemaker.

“Over the last few years, we have upgraded equipment, purchased and installed our live-fire training facility, and started developing the training grounds, improving our training program. Those efforts, combined with those of the Alliance Public Safety Communications Center and Public Works with our water distribution system, significantly improved our rating. We are already considering how to maintain our new rating.”

The Insurance Service Office (ISO) evaluates and classifies more than 40,000 fire protection areas across the country, analyzing how each district performs on water supply, emergency communications, needed fire flows, and the equipment, staffing, and training of fire departments, among other factors using their Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). ISO then assigns a Public Protection Classification (PPC) from 1 to 10. Class 1 represents superior property fire protection, and Class 10 indicates that area’s fire suppression program does not meet their minimum criteria. The Alliance Fire Department’s newest ISO-issued PPC is 03/3Y, making it one of just 3,856 Class 3 fire departments in the U.S. and one of just 24 in Nebraska. Alliance’s previous PPC was 04/4Y.

“I applaud the efforts of Chief Shoemaker, the Alliance Fire Department, Alliance Public Works, and the Alliance Public Safety Communications Center for continually improving the quality of our emergency services,” said Alliance City Manager Seth Sorensen. “This will directly translate into savings for our residents in exchange for their continued investment in City services.”

According to the ISO, a community’s investment in fire mitigation measures can be a reliable indicator of future fire losses. Statistical data on insurance losses routinely reflects the relationship between adequate fire protection, measured by the PPC ratings, and low fire losses.

Consequently, scores of insurance providers utilize PPC ratings to help set their premiums for homeowners and businesses. Typically, fire
insurance costs in a community with a highly rated fire department under the ISO classification are lower than in a community with a poor PPC grade. “These excellent marks for the Alliance Fire Department are a textbook example of the residents’ tax dollars being put to good use,” said Alliance Mayor Earl Jones. “First and foremost, our Fire Department’s top-of-the-line practices and procedures help us feel secure in our homes and businesses.” If residents can also save money on their insurance, that is just icing on the cake.

Fire Chief Shoemaker states the new Class 3 classification will be effective May 1, 2024. ISO is an independent company that provides information about risk to insurance companies, communities, fire departments, insurance regulators, and others.

From City of Alliance

Our city’s Water Department is out working in the area of 12th and Box Butte. Unfortunately, we do not know when services will be restored, but they are working diligently to get things fixed as quickly as possible.

***UPDATE***
Water should be restored to all addresses now. Box Butte is open again, but there are still barricades around the hole they were working on. If you experience any other issues, please give us a call! 308-762-4955

Police Chief Opposition

By Brian Hale

(OPINION) — Nine qualified candidates from five states interviewed for Alliance Chief of Police and one candidate with a storied past of sexual misconduct (never ‘officially charged’ with any crime) was selected to the dismay of local citizens.

Local citizens began by contacting us and other news outlets about their dissatisfaction.

Eventually, several citizens fulfilled their civic duty and took it upon themselves to request to speak to the council when the opportunity was presented.

https://www.nashville.gov/sites/default/files/2021-11/csc-211109a.pdf

The last item on the agenda for Council was an Agenda Request.

The City of Alliance received requests from Karen Trussel, Tamara Wood, Jeff Schneider, Tim Smith, Spencer Sanchez, and Joshua Trussel to speak before the Alliance City Council regarding the hiring of the Police Chief.

Karen Trussel, 1117 Meadowlark, Alliance, Nebraska, a concerned citizen spoke
before Council stressing her concerns about the recent hiring process of the new Police
Chief. She felt as if the City Manager is trying to sweep the allegations of the new Police Chief under the rug; and questioning if Mr. Leavitt was truly the best option among the
candidates.

Tamara Wood, 1215 Mississippi Ave, Alliance, Nebraska, a concerned citizen
spoke before Council with her concerns in being opposed to the new Polic Chief hire
feeling this is violation of trust and would like to see the offer given to Mr. Leavitt
rescinded.

Jeff Schneider, 2935 West Lakefield, Alliance, Nebraska, a concerned citizen spoke before Council asking several questions regarding the new hire of the Police Chief “Anyone ask the current officers” and “Did the scoring include bravery.” Jeff feels Kirk needs to be Chief instead.

Tim Smith, 186 Burnham Drive, Alliance, Nebraska, a concerned citizen spoke
before the Council to voice his disappointment selection of the hire of the new Police Chief, Mr. Smith was unhappy with the City’s press release regarding the hiring of the new Police Chief. Mr. Smith then asked “Why would Mr. Leavitt want to come here”

Spencer Snachez, 605 Laramie Avenue, Alliance, Nebraska, a citizen spoke before
Council asking, “Why and how this decision was made?” “How is he the best fit?” Spencer stated Mr. Leavitt is running from his current problems, “Why would we want those problems?”

Joshua Trussell, 912 Colorado Avenue, Alliance, Nebraska, a concerned citizen
spoke before Council with first thanking the Council. Joshua brough up concerns of expenses from the previous Chief and will be going down the same path costing tax payers more. Then asking, “How someone with his history will be successful?”

With no further discussion Mayor Jones adjourned the meeting.

The City said in their press release defending Leavitt, that the charges were not true.

However, when you look at the Agenda minutes from Nashville, you see he was indeed demoted. You don’t demote someone if they’re retiring in good standing.

From November 9, 2021 Agenda

It’s true he was never convicted of a crime in a court of law. He was only guilty before his peers, who for years claimed sexual harassment and nothing positive was done. In fact, new officers in Alliance should know that those who reported his same-sex advances, suffered his repercussions.

We don’t pull any punches at Digging Deeper. We understand the truth could get us killed someday, and we’re okay with that. Our faith is in a much higher administration, where the truth will set you free.

Distracted Driver MVA

(ALLIANCE, Neb.) — Earlier today, our Alliance Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of 8th and Laramie Ave. A silver 2008 Cadillac DTS collided with a parked red 2015 Cadillac Escalade.

Preliminary reports suggest that the driver of the Cadillac DTS was distracted, leading to the accident. The driver, accompanied by three juvenile passengers, reported minor injuries, with one child experiencing head and back pain.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel from the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department swiftly arrived on the scene, providing immediate assistance and assessment to all involved.

At the request of the driver, all parties in the Cadillac DTS were transported to Box Butte General Hospital for further evaluation.

We urge all community members to remain vigilant and cautious while driving, especially in residential areas.

Your safety is our priority! Stay safe, Alliance!
