Training at The Nebraska State Patrol
This week at the NSP Training Academy, the recruits are going through basic tactical medicine training.
As often the first person on scene, troopers need to have the knowledge on how to address severe injuries until paramedics or EMTs can reach the scene. #FutureTroopers #NSPCamp67

We are all thankful for everything the State Patrol does every day.
Congratulations Trooper Sporer
Milestone day at the Monument! Congratulations to Trooper Sporer of Scottsbluff on receiving his first solo patrol unit!

Sirens Tested; Message from Region 22

Many of you may have heard sirens around 10 am on Wednesday. The following was the message put out by Region 22 Emergency Management on the Facebook page.
“This test will only last for approximately one minute and will include the Western Nebraska Regional Airport and Western Sugar. These tests are conducted on the second Wednesday of every month through October.
The purpose of these tests is to ensure the sirens are in proper working order in case the time comes that they are needed for a real emergency, such as a tornado, damaging straight-line winds, or chemical spill.
Emergency Management and 911 wants to remind the public that outdoor warning sirens are designed for those persons who may be outdoors during a warning to go indoors and tune in to local news television or radio for further information. They are not designed to be heard indoors.
The public is encouraged to have a weather alert radio or to download any of the alerting apps available to the public. To sign up for Panhandle Alert, visit http://panhandlealert.org/. To sign up for the app, search Smart 911 in the app store for Apple or Android.”
Of course, you can also follow Scotts Bluff County Scanner for breaking alerts since we gather everyone’s news and filter it down to what’s important to you.
Downtown Re-Vitalization
You probably noticed the construction going on downtown. Here’s why…
The following story was told by The Midwest Theater on their Facebook page Wednesday morning.
Initial marquee replacement construction phases have begun at the Midwest Theater in downtown Scottsbluff with essential structural work and the replacement of the newly constructed marquee infrastructure continuing in the coming weeks. While construction crews are on-site, and sidewalk and parking obstructions will be in place.

Watch more progress here! https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=162296259771193&mibextid=Nif5oz
Last July, construction crews from Wagner Electric Sign Company of Elyria, Ohio disassembled the original marquee. Since then, many upgrades have been made, including replicating the original glass tube neon with LED lighting, electrical upgrades, and the inclusion of structural and weather-resistant materials.
The rebuilt marquee is one of the final phases of restoration efforts at the historic Midwest Theater, including interior painting, Terrazzo flooring, interior neon replacement, and original sidewalk restorations.
Restoration costs have been covered by generous donations from the community to the Friends of the Midwest Theater. These donations made securing Federal grants to cover the remainder of the expenses possible. The tremendous support for this effort over the past three and a half years from the community, local businesses, and local government have made this project possible.
Over the next couple of months, the community will be able to witness this amazing restoration come to fruition. with the remainder of the marquee construction being completed in late May.
Midwest Theater Executive Director Tina Worthman states, “This restoration will return the awe-inspiring landmark of the original iconic marquee back to Broadway that residents and visitors have enjoyed over the past 77 years.”
