Stolen Church Van
(SCOTTSBLUFF, Nebr.) — The congregation at Bethel Baptist Church was awakened Sunday by the news of an overnight break-in.
According to scanner traffic, a call came in early Sunday morning indicating a discovery that the utilities were off and a breach had occurred. A quick inventory was made, and it was clear the largest item stolen was their White 2000 Dodge 3500 church passenger van.
The police department put out a BOLO (Be On the Look Out) for the White Dodge Van with new Nebraska plates 21-82.
We learned from the pastor’s wife that the van was equipped with a locking gas cap and had little fuel on board. It’s possible this van is abandoned somewhere nearby.
If you locate this vehicle, please snap a photo and contact your local police department or call 911 (which rings into the same place). They’ll ask you if it’s an emergency, and if not, the call will be properly routed.
Free Diabetes Assistance from Life Change Connection
“Our mission is to support people and the families in the service area of Western Nebraska affected by Diabetes. This may include but not limited to a mentor program, support group of all ages, help with medical supplies, travel expenses, teaching, and training materials.”
Life Change Connection was founded in 2012.
The founders are Neal and Lora Blomenkamp. Neal was born in 1961 and was diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic in 1967 at the age of 6. His diabetes has affected his vision, his feet, and kidneys. He had a kidney transplant in 1997. He received the kidney from his brother. 3 years later, he received a pancreas transplant from a cadaver donor.
Most of Neal’s adult life, he had thought he would like to start a foundation. However, it was just a thought until The Day.
He currently owns a restaurant franchise, which is what brings us to “The Day”, that was when he was working a lunch hour taking orders in the drive-thru. A lady gave her order at the menu board, and then she pulled forward to the window. Neal opened the drive-thru window and gave her the total.
The customers then ask, “Are you, Neal?”
He answered, “Yes”.
Closed the window and proceeded with counting the change due her. In his mind he thought, why did she want to know if I was Neal? It had to be 1 of 2 reasons. She had a cause and was looking for support, or as a restaurant, we had made a mistake on an earlier order. Either way, back to the window, I gave her change back.
She then asks, “Are you a diabetic?” I thought wow, who is this lady? Very few people know that about me. I said, “Yes, why do you ask?” She replied, “I wish my daughter would have gotten to know you.” I thought what an honor. Then she proceeded to tell me that her daughter had become a diabetic. 20 or so, I’m thinking by our conversation. Anyway she could not deal with it, and she took her own life.
Wow…. I told her I’m sorry. She told me, “Thank you.” Off she went. I have never seen this lady again.
However, that was “The Day,” I put it all in motion. With the help of Lora and my 3 children, Life Change Connection was created.

Understanding Narcan

Looking at the comments from our post yesterday, it is apparent that many people do not understand the purpose of Narcan.
Narcan is a life saving drug administered by a third party to revive a heavily overdosed drug user.
It is not a typical medication made to make them feel better or to deal with their addiction. It is used in an EMERGENCY OVERDOSE situation where the person’s breathing slows down so much that they need to be revived to live.
By allowing the public to have narcan in their possession, it gives the non drug user the ability to save the life of anyone, including someone who might have accidentally or unintentionally come in contact with dangerous opioids, including the ever popular fentanyl.
On the flip side, we do believe that it may enable some drug user cultures to continue to abuse drugs… because they will have a free ticket back to life… IF someone has some narcan.

Monumental Cleanup Effort
Make a difference at Scotts Bluff National Monument by volunteering in the Badlands Cleanup at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 29th.
Participants will help remove litter from the badlands area of the monument and look for evidence of fossils as well. To participate, call the monument at 308-436-9700 to register.
Volunteers must be at least 13 years old and capable of lifting up to 20 lbs. and walking up to two miles on steep, uneven terrain. Tools and safety training will be provided.
