Values of a Good Community
Kenyan runner Abel Mutai was a few meters from the finish line, but got confused by the signals and stopped, thinking he had finished the race.

The Spanish runner, Ivan Fernandez, was right behind him and, realizing what was happening in front of him, began shouting for the Kenyan to keep running.
One reporter asked Evan, “Why did you do this?” Evan replied, “My dream is that one day we can have the kind of community life that pushes ourselves and others to win as well.”
“But why did you let the Kenyan win?” the reporter insisted.
Evan replied, “I didn’t let him win, he would win. It was his race.”
The reporter insisted and asked again: “But you could have won!”
Evan looked at him and replied, “But what is the merit of my victory? What is the honor of this medal? What will my mother think?”
Values are passed on from generation to generation.
What values do we teach our children and to what extent do they inspire others to earn them?
Most of us take advantage of people’s weaknesses rather than helping to strengthen them.
I HOPE YOU HAVE LEARNED A LESSON FROM THIS 💕👌

Frighteningly Close Encounter
🚨 There’s a new movie out called “Sound of Freedom.” My husband and I haven’t seen it yet, although we are planning on it.
However, a personal experience that happened when our daughter was about 20 months old has been heavy on my heart and I feel compelled to share it in case it can be a reminder to another Mom that we are never as safe as we think we are when we are out with our children.
I was waddling-stage-pregnant when the 3 of us had gone on a quick road trip and were on our way home. We pulled off the highway to a rest stop. (Broad daylight, rest stop looked nice, and pregnant mama had to pee.) There was a beautiful playground right beside the rest stop with a pretty wooded area right behind it. I wanted to let my daughter stretch her legs, so my husband headed to the bathroom and my daughter and I started to the playground.
There was a man walking up the sidewalk about 20 yards behind us, but I figured he was also heading to the restroom. As we were walking, another man was walking down the pathway toward us (assumed he was heading to the parking lot.) When he was about 20 yards away I got an awful feeling in my stomach and picked my daughter up right before we passed him (she had been walking and holding my hand.) I noticed a black ear piece in his ear.
Immediately after passing him, I heard him say something quietly into the earpiece, so I turned around. Right as I turned around, I saw one man give a thumbs up to the other man. Both men had identical ear pieces.
Some context:
There was nobody else at the playground and nobody else inside the rest stop. The only other vehicle in the entire parking lot was a white van without windows.
Nope. That wasn’t sitting right with me.
The man who had been walking toward us went and got into the van. The man who had been behind us started walking faster and I knew something bad was about to happen if I didn’t quickly do something. I started saying VERY VERY loud, “Look!!! There’s Daddy!! Right there!!! Hi Daddy!!!” and pointing to the rest stop. (Neil was still in the restroom and I absolutely did not see him, but I wanted that man to know my husband was nearby and I wasn’t alone.) I was too afraid to get confrontational because there were two of them and just me (very pregnant) with my little girl. (I obviously would have fought like hell if it came to that.)
Right then he walked out right as we got to the top of the hill, and as soon as he did the man booked it off the sidewalk, and went back into a wooded area behind the playground. The playground I was about to take my 20 month old daughter to. By myself. Remember- there are NO other kids on the playground, and nothing else in the woods. No picnic tables. No camp sites. Nothing. But he disappeared in there.
I was literally shaking and I told Neil what happened. Neil wanted to walk the perimeter of the bldg to look for cameras that may have caught these men on film (we obviously went with him, and my husband lawfully carries- so we did feel safe doing this.) No cameras.
As we were heading back to our car to call the police, the man who had gone into the woods quickly came back out and jumped into the van with the other man who was in there waiting, and they sped off.
I have never been able to forget the exact words of the police officer. He said, “What you thought was about to happen, is very likely what was about to happen.”
In case you’re not tracking with me: These men knew each other, clearly. They saw a VERY pregnant woman (and no husband in sight) walking with her 20 month old daughter alone. Had they had the chance, I believe with every fiber in my being that they would have snatched her and been gone. The police confirmed that is likely exactly what was about to happen.
You guys… I was not distracted. I was not on my phone. It was broad daylight. We were not in a sketchy area. But none of that mattered. I truly think if I hadn’t picked her up in my arms when I did, they would have grabbed her and been gone. (She had my fingernail marks on her back for almost two days from how tightly I was holding her when we passed that man. THAT is how certain I was that something horrible was going to happen to her if they had the chance to take her.)
I cried (literally) the entire way home. I sat in the back seat with her for the remainder of our drive. She slept in between us in our bed for days after we got home because I couldn’t sleep without her next to me. And I received several virtual (thanks Covid) counseling sessions. It was the most traumatic thing I had ever experienced as a parent. I remember sobbing to my mom on the phone that night as I replayed it all in my head and realized we may have been that close to never seeing our child again.
Moms (and dads)… you are not immune to this happening to you. Your kids are not immune. There are horrible, horrible people who will wait for the perfect moment to snatch a child, and that’s it. You may not get a second chance.
