Haig Road Fire

NEWS RELEASE

(SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.) — On March 5, 2024 Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department was dispatched to a fully involved structure fire on Haig Road.

Upon arrival of the Fire Chief, the structure was found to be at 75% involvement. Mutual aid was requested from Mitchell, Gering, Morrill and Lyman.

In the process of extinguishing this fire 114,000 gallons of water was hauled to and used at the scene. Approximately 30 firefighters were on scene. The home and contents were deemed a loss at $1 million.

The State Fire Marshall’s Office was on scene to investigate the fire. All units cleared the scene on March 6th at approximately 1am.

IMPORTANT UPDATE : Scanner Traffic indicated the location to be confirmed as 150938 Haig Rd, Mitchell. Remember, reports are preliminary over a scanner, that’s just the nature of scanner traffic.

HOWEVER, Family has written and advised us that the address called in is not the address of the fire. Thank you for the important update. We are praying for you and your family and ask the community to please join us in finding out ways we can help them, but first we can pray.

No human life was lost but everything else was including the family dogs. Look for upcoming ways to help this family.

Multiple fire departments are being paged for mutual aid for the structure fire on Haig Road. Additional tankers are being requested. This is obviously a serious fire and will likely be a total loss. Please pray for the family and for the first responders. Stay off Hwy 92 and the dirt roads surrounding the area!

Our scanner insiders group was busy covering the story. We immediately learned that it was the Golden family that was affected and that a wrong address had been given out over the scanner. Henceforth, requiring the updates above.

Watch out for the rattlesnake on Omaha Beach if you're out at Lake McConaughey. At 5 p.m. last night on July 23rd, there was a snake spotted. Pretty good size. Please be aware of your surroundings while enjoying the lake. They're out and this heat will have them looking for water and cool places as the summer continues. Muhammad Ali once said, service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth. The Hershey Volunteer Fire Department posted that meaningful and timeless message yesterday as a reminder that the recent fires highlights the amazing communities we serve. If you want to give back, contact your local fire department. There is a construction update in Torrington. The East D Street construction project is in its final stages and there will be some closure changes over the next few days. If you haven't driven through the area lately, East D Street is now open to East 28th Avenue, which provides an easy connection to Main Street. The Chadron Area 9-1-1 lines were down yesterday. They have been restored after they learned that a fiber optic had been cut at an unknown location. The Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department recently posted that they responded to a grass fire on July 20th in the area of Murphy Road and Highway 29 north of Mitchell and Sioux County. It was likely started from a lightning strike as thunderstorms moved through the area. Luckily, the rain from those storms put out the fire before it could get very big. They did respond with eight trucks and multiple personnel. The Alliance Fire Department project is complete. They wrote, "she's a beaut, Clark.
