Nebraska’s Longest Running Community Band

(GERING, Neb.) – Summer is a time to kick back, spend time outdoors and hang out with friends and family. A classic activity that dates back to Gering’s earliest days is the annual summer community band concerts in the park.

Formed in 1889 as the Gering Cornet Band, the Gering City Band is one of the oldest continual performing summer concert bands in the state of Nebraska. For 28 years, Randy Raines has directed the band. It has over 60 members, with players ranging from age 13 to 80. High school players who will be in grades 9 through 12 this coming school year and college players are also invited to join by recommendation from their school director.

The next Gering City Band concert is Thursday, June 20 at 7:30 in Gering’s Legion Park. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and a snack and enjoy a music-filled evening!

There will be concerts in Legion Park each Thursday, with the final concert held on Friday, July 12th, which is during OT Days. There is no concert on July 4, or July 11.
