Seward I-80 Accident Claims One

(SEWARD, Neb.) – Police in Seward have released a statement regarding the Eastbound I-80 MVA with Injury that we originally reported Wednesday. I-80 Eastbound was closed from Goehner to Seward and traffic was backed up at the time.

PRESS RELEASE – On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at approximately 6:15 am, the Seward County Sheriff’s Office responded to a multi-vehicle crash on eastbound I-80 near MM 377.

A preliminary investigation on scene revealed a tractor-trailer (vehicle 1) traveling eastbound collided with the rear of another tractor-trailer (vehicle 2) that was also traveling eastbound.

The poerator and sole occupant of vehicle 2, Ahmad K Bazgar, 40, of Falls Church, VA was transported to Seward Memorial with minor injuries. The driver and sole occupant of vehicle 1, Suny Rattu, 34, of Lincoln, CA, was pronounced deceased on scene.

Seward Fire and Rescue, Seward Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol and Nebraska Department of Transportation assisted on scene. The accident is being investigated by the Seward County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol.

The Seward County Sheriff’s Office and staff offer condolences to all family and friends affected by Wednesday’s tragedy.
