(LEXINGTON, Neb.) – The Sheriff’s Department in Dawson County recieved new tools to help in the event of an injury emergency.
Through a matching grant with the Buddy Christian Foundation, the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office was awarded 17 new self-aid or buddy-aid trauma kits, a.k.a. “Buddy Kits”. These buddy kits will help tend to critical wounds suffered in the field, and help prevent in the line of duty deaths. These can also be used if needed for other victims who are in need of critical wound care prior to EMS arrival.
A self-aid or buddy-aid trauma kit typically includes items to control bleeding and treat other injuries, such as:
- Tourniquets
- Hemostatic gauze
- Pressure bandage
- Chest seals
- Nitrile gloves
- Combat gauze
- Quick clotting dressings
- Trauma sheers
- Nasopharyngeal airway kits
- Surgical self-adhesive tape

Of course, the ideal outcome for all law enforcement families is to have their loved officer return home alive at the end of every shift. To that end, we aspire to put a Buddy Kit(TM), self-aid or buddy-aid trauma kit, in the hands of law enforcement officers. These kits and accompanying training will help tend to critical wounds suffered in the field, and prevent line of duty deaths.
The Buddy Christian Foundation
The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office greatly appreciates this grant and would highly encourage others to go to https://buddychristianfoundation.org/ to learn more about fallen Officer Buddy Christian and how his tragic loss of life has helped change the life of so many others. You can also offer a contribution to their cause if you want to help other law enforcement agencies have access to a much needed tool.
