Nurse’s License Revoked After Death of Veteran

From Platte Valley Media

(BELLEVUE, Neb.) — Nebraska’s chief medical officer has revoked the nursing license of Curlee Schneiders, a licensed practical nurse, following an incident that led to a veteran’s death in June 2024.

According to a petition filed by the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office, Schneiders was working at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home when an elderly male patient, who required a soft diet, was given inappropriate food at her direction. While the patient ate, Schneiders, seated at the nurse’s station wearing headphones, briefly glanced at him but failed to intervene as he began choking.

Video footage showed the patient losing consciousness and remaining unattended for about 10 minutes before dying. A CNA present at the time was assisting other patients.

Dr. Timothy Tesmer, Nebraska’s chief medical officer, found Schneiders guilty of gross negligence and unprofessional conduct. Her nursing license was officially revoked on Thursday.
