Ever seen the Black Box on a commercial building and wonder what it was for? This black box, and the white one is what we call Knox Boxes. The Knox Box program is a controlled key access program that allows Scottsbluff Fire Personnel to access stored keys, in partnership with building owners.
Unlike conventional lock boxes you can find at the hardware store, Knox Boxes are a reinforced steel box that only the Fire Department has access to. In the event of an incident at a property that has a Knox Box, any arriving apparatus can access the property without waiting for a key holder. This helps mitigate the potential of additional property damage that could be caused by a fire, a broken sprinkler line, or a fire alarm sounding.

So what about the smaller white box? This Knox Box is intended for Residential Homes at no additional cost. If your home has a fire alarm system in it, that calls out to the Communication Center, we would encourage you have one. We also encourage them for at risk residents that are prone to falls or may be unable to get to the door in the event of a medical emergency.

If you are interested in participating in our Knox Box Program please reach out via email at firemarshal@scottsbluff.org, or by phone at (308)630-6227.
**Please note the Residential Knox Box Program is only offered to City of Scottsbluff Residents**
