Probation for 40+ Year Sexual Predator

(FREMONT COUNTY, Iowa.) — An 81-year-old Sidney man was sentenced in Fremont County Court for child sexual assault stemming back more than 40 years.

Ronald Dean Boyer was convicted of two counts of lascivious acts with a child, a class C felony, and sentenced Monday in Fremont County District Court. His arrest in September 2023 followed an investigation that began in December 2023, revealing he sexually assaulted a child multiple times between 2020 and 2023. In an August 2024 interview, Boyer admitted to additional sexual abuse, including offenses against minors dating back to the early 1980s.

As part of a plea agreement, Boyer pleaded guilty to reduced charges. While Fremont County Attorney Peter Johnson sought the maximum sentence of two consecutive 10-year prison terms, District Court Judge Margaret Reyes sentenced him to two concurrent 10-year terms. However, the judge suspended both the prison sentence and fines, instead placing Boyer on two years of probation.

Boyer is required to live in a residential treatment center until deemed rehabilitated by the U.S. Department of Corrections. He must also register as a sex offender, submit to DNA profiling, and complete Iowa’s Sex Offender Treatment Program.
