(RICHARDSON COUNTY, Neb.) – A 37-year-old Humboldt man and registered sex offender is now accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
Court records show Matthew Nix is charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child, intentional child abuse and violating the sex offender registry.
On Monday, July 28, the Richardson County Sheriff’s Office took a report from a woman claiming her 12-year-old daughter had been sexually assaulted by Nix. The girl reported the alleged assault a month after it had reportedly happened.
The BraveBe Child Advocacy Center in Lincoln forensically interviewed the girl the next day. She told authorities that Nix had offered her a gift in exchange for sex, according to an arrest affidavit. When she refused, authorities think Nix then forcefully grabbed the girl before sexually assaulting her. The affidavit shows that the girl’s family was asleep at the time.
Deputies began their investigation Monday, and they quickly discovered that Nix was no longer employed and reportedly failed to update with the sex offender registry. He reportedly worked two days in 2025 before quitting his job in May to be a “stay-at-home dad,” authorities said.

Nix was arrested on Wednesday and lodged in the Richardson County Jail. His bond for the alleged registration violation was set at 10% of $10,000; as of August 1, he has not appeared in court for the sexual assault charge and a court date has not been set.
Nix is a registered sex offender following a 2011 conviction for first-degree sexual assault of a child and possession of child pornography. He was later convicted of violating the registry in 2024.
