(BRIDGEPORT, Neb.) — An unlicensed driver asleep at the wheel was given a free ride, as well as a free night’s stay (plus possible bonus time) back on July 29th by the kind deputies of Morrill County.

On July 29, 2025, at approximately 10:36 p.m., deputies with the Morrill County Sheriff’s Office were on routine patrol when they observed a vehicle parked near 12th and N Street in Bridgeport, Nebraska.
Deputies found the driver to be asleep at the wheel and conducted a welfare check. During the course of the investigation, deputies determined the driver had a suspended driver’s license. A search of the vehicle was conducted, during which deputies located approximately 6 grams of suspected methamphetamine and various items of drug paraphernalia.
The driver, identified as Christopher H. Ray, was subsequently arrested and transported to the Morrill County Jail. Ray was booked on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Driving Under Suspension.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
