Skeletal Remains Found at Monument

By Panhandle Scanner

(GERING, Neb.) — A man walking his dog discovered lots of activity near the Scotts Bluff National Monument and authorities accessing the ditchbank near the walking trail behind the golf course.

Initial post – 10:53 a.m. We just received this message from a long time follower, “There is a ton of police and other agencies gathered at the top of Country Club Road in Gering.”

Please stay clear of the area. We will get you updates as soon as possible. We ask for your prayers for the community.

The comments contained several clues, as often happens on this page. Many were saying that a body was found at the monument. Those comments led us to Mr. Kelly Mumm.

UPDATE -12:46 p.m. We have NOT received confirmation from any official sources at this time. Please consider all information as preliminary and developing. Several people in the community are reporting to us that a body has been found on the side of the monument. There are photos in the comments originally posted by Kelly Mumm, showing a search and recovery effort. Again, nothing is confirmed at this time. Please pray for everyone involved. This kind of discovery has many people anxious about the situation.

We can confirm that scanner traffic has been virtually SILENT for at least two hours.

After visiting with Mr. Mumm about his encounter around, we felt secure in releasing the story.

** BODY FOUND – CONFIRMED **

UPDATE – 1:05 p.m. We have spoken directly to our eye-witness on scene this morning. He was told by a plain clothes officer with a badge, who was accessing the property along with police officers this morning around 10:00 a.m., that they are recovering a body that had been there for years.

We can confirm the story posted by Kelly Mumm. We have confirmed that while he was walking his dogs this morning, he spoke directly to law enforcement at the back gate of entry to the monument.

The skeletal remains that were found, may have first been discovered last evening when a police presence was spotted after 6:00 p.m.

Shortly after that time, we heard Nebraska State Patrol troopers all being advised to go to LE Secure 5, a channel reserved for the most sensitive situations.

Again, we ask for everyone’s patience in the identification of the person found. It will likely take some time since it is skeletal remains. Our prayers are continually with everyone hurting right now.

Many are speculating who this person may have been. This afternoon the Help Find Chance Englebert posted this message.

Early this morning, our family was contacted by Law Enforcement officials in Scottsbluff County. We were informed of a discovery that may be related to the disappearance of Chance.

At this critical juncture, we need to emphasize that there is no positive identification or additional evidence to confirm that the individual is Chance.

We ask the entire “Chance’s Army” community for your patience and respect during this time. Please allow Law Enforcement to conduct their thorough investigation. Our family is waiting for official confirmation and further information from the authorities.

We ask for your prayers as we wait, hoping that this discovery brings closure, whether for our family or for another family searching for their missing loved one.

Englebert Family
