Update: West 3rd Street Vehicle Burglary Investigation

On Tuesday afternoon, officers were contacted by an employee of Bruce Furniture who reported finding a purse behind the store property. The purse was identified as the one stolen during the recent auto burglary. Officers responded and recovered the purse, which contained the two stolen firearms, a ring, and a wallet. According to the victim, the only item still missing was the cash that had been taken. All recovered property was returned to the victim.

The Alliance Police Department is still seeking the suspect involved in this case. Additional photos and video footage have been obtained from another business and are being reviewed. If you recognize the suspect, please contact the Alliance Police Department at 308-762-4955.

Statement from Chief David Leavitt:

“I am just relieved that a store employee found this before a child or someone else. This could have been a tragedy. I firmly support the Second Amendment and the lawful carrying of firearms. However, we have got to keep them secured to avoid situations like this. Vehicles are not as fortified as our homes, and it is easy for thieves to get your valuables, including firearms. Please think twice before leaving them in your car if you can possibly avoid it.”
