(ALLIANCE, Neb.) — The Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of Marlyn D. Wilcox in connection with an investigation into the sexual assault of a minor.
The juvenile victim’s identity will not be released, and no information that could reveal the victim’s identity will be disclosed in accordance with applicable law.
Wilcox was taken into custody without incident on April 9, 2026, following a preliminary investigation by the Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Ryan Dannar acknowledged several investigators in a formal statement. “As Sheriff, I want to formally recognize Chief Deputy Baden Shelmadine, Deputy Rey Valdez, and Deputy Eathen Sanchez, who made it their priority to remove this dangerous offender from our community as quickly as possible. Through their swift and dedicated efforts, an arrest was made within hours of the initial report to law enforcement. Their professionalism, teamwork, and sense of urgency reflect the commitment of this office to protecting our citizens.”
The Alliance Police Department assisted the Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office in this investigation.

Wilcox faces multiple charges under Nebraska law, including First Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, a Class IB felony. Additional charges are being withheld from this release to protect the privacy of the victim and their family.
Wilcox is being held at the Box Butte County Jail pending further court proceedings.
Court records show Wilcox was previously convicted of sexual assault in 1987, before the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry was established in 1997.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional investigative methods are being used to build the strongest possible case for the Box Butte County Attorney’s Office to pursue prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
No further information is available at this time.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
