Al’s Market Set to Close

(BAYARD, Neb.) – After a little over three years, Bayard’s only grocery store is closing its doors.

Bayard had gone more than two years without a grocery store when local resident Mike Harimon bought the former Bayard Grocery building at 305 Main Street and reopened it as Al’s Market in June 2023. The family-owned shop offered a full range of groceries, grab-and-go sandwiches, and even wild game, quickly becoming a fixture of the small downtown.

The store announced it will close for good, citing a lack of funds for needed repairs and insufficient revenue to keep operating. As part of the wind-down, all merchandise is 10% off, no new inventory is coming in, hours stay the same this week except for a closure on Tuesday, September 15th.

With Al’s Market gone, Bayard will once again be without a grocery store, sending residents back to Scottsbluff, Gering, or Alliance for full shopping trips — the same situation the town faced before Al’s opened in 2023.
