Automated Horn System Failed

(GERING, Neb.) — The City of Gering has notified residents that the automated horn system at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing on Country Club Road has failed and cannot be repaired.

A replacement system has been ordered and is expected to be delivered and installed within six to eight weeks. Until the new system is operational, trains will be required to sound their horns when approaching the crossing.

The city acknowledged the additional train noise may be disruptive and asked residents for patience and understanding while the system is replaced.
