Red Cloud Student Dies

(RED CLOUD, Neb.) — Red Cloud Community Schools announced Thursday the death of a second-grade student, prompting the district to make additional support available to students and staff.

The district did not release information about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

In a statement, Red Cloud Community Schools said, “It is with a very heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of one of our second-grade students.”

The district described the loss as difficult for the school community and said its thoughts are with the student’s family and loved ones. School officials also asked the community to respect the family’s privacy during the difficult time.

The district said teachers and staff will support students at school and provide age-appropriate opportunities for children to talk, ask questions or spend time with a trusted adult. Officials noted that children may respond to loss in different ways.

A crisis support team will be available at both the elementary and secondary schools for students and staff who need additional assistance. Counselors, administrators, teachers and support staff also will be available throughout the school day.

The district encouraged parents and guardians to check in with their children and reassure them that feelings such as sadness, confusion and worry are normal following a loss.

Red Cloud Community Schools asked its “Warrior Family” to come together with kindness, compassion and understanding while supporting the student’s family and classmates.
