Assault Caught On Video

We recieved extensive feedback on this article as soon as it was posted. We felt it would be good to show you what some of the immediate comments were. The original article follows the comments.

Melissa Van Galder Wait what? Why is he at fault for this?

Dave Radomski “sounds to me like the victim created the whole situation by climbing on the hood and trying to get in the car when the guy was just trying to leave if the coin was flipped and he did those things he would have been arrested for doing it. instead he gets arrested for trying to defuse the situation“

Aaron Ott “Being a man means you can’t even get away from a bad situation. She admits he was trying to leave, she admits SHE attempted to stop him from leaving, which is holding someone against their will, she jumps on a moving vehicle PREGNANT and HE’S the one arrested? Wouldn’t throwing your self onto a car and admittedly putting your unborn child’s in harms away be child endangerment and abuse itself? The dude was literally trying to avoid a fight and she prevents him from doing so and he’s the one arrested?? What am I missing here??”

Jessica David When I read this, my first thought was “why the hell would you jump on a moving car??? Why would you try to get in the car? Wait….HE is the one that got arrested????”

Hannah Brown “Im sorry what? So he did what everyone is told to do and get away from the situation but is now in trouble for doing as such? What about the woman? Is she getting any charges. Out of genuine curiosity what would have been the ideal outcome here? Him staying and being verbally abused and possibly assaulted himself?…make it make sense please 😕“

Ethan Nepper “well I can tell you from experience if he called communications over a battery/domestic dispute the responding officers will laugh at him and not do anything but a simple dismissal report. Well that’s spd. Not sure how gpd would handle things. Not gonna give the opportunity to see either!“

Deb Raines “Here’s the problem. A quote from the article – Stahla admitted driving away with the victim on the hood and accelerating after stopping on 14th Street, The last person who could have prevented injury was the driver. None of us has reviewed the video, and I’m assuming that the article is correct. The video would certainly clarify this.”

(GERING, Neb.) — A 27-year-old Gering man is facing felony domestic assault and misdemeanor child abuse charges after an incident involving a woman was captured on surveillance video, according to court documents filed in Scotts Bluff County Court.

Logan P. Stahla was arrested Oct. 5 following an investigation by the Gering Police Department. He is charged with third-degree domestic assault on a pregnant person, a Class 3A felony, and negligent child abuse without injury, a Class 1 misdemeanor.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, officers responded to a disturbance at a residence on Bonanza Street around 9:17 a.m. The victim told police that Stahla attempted to drive away following an argument.

The victim reported climbing onto the hood of Stahla’s vehicle as he drove toward 14th Street. After coming to a stop, she got off the hood and attempted to open the passenger-side door. She told officers Stahla rapidly accelerated away while she was holding the door handle, causing her to fall to the ground.

Investigating officers reviewed surveillance camera footage of the incident. According to the affidavit, the footage confirmed the victim was on the hood while the vehicle moved, climbed off when it stopped on 14th Street, and was thrown to the ground and rolled when Stahla accelerated while she held the door handle. Officers observed visible scrapes on her legs.

When interviewed by police, Stahla admitted driving away with the victim on the hood and accelerating after stopping on 14th Street, stating he was trying to leave the area to allow the situation to calm down. Stahla was taken into custody at the direction of Scotts Bluff County Attorney Kirk Fellhoelter and booked into the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center.

During his initial court appearance, County Court Judge Mark L. Kovarik set Stahla’s bond at $20,000 with a 10% cash deposit allowed. As conditions of bond, Stahla was ordered to have no contact with the victim or the child and was granted permission to leave the state solely for employment purposes.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Oct. 19 at 3:00 p.m. in Scotts Bluff County Court in Gering.
