Mustang Ride Hits the Shoulder

(GERING, Neb.) — A 28-year-old man was ordered to pay $275 in fines after pleading guilty Thursday in Scotts Bluff County Court to multiple traffic infractions, including driving without a valid operator’s license.

Jose M. Amador Zepeda, 28, pleaded guilty to speeding, driving on the shoulder, driving without an operator’s license and possessing an open alcohol container in a vehicle, according to court records.

A Nebraska State Patrol trooper stopped a red Ford Mustang traveling eastbound on Highway 26 near mile marker 39 late Wednesday night after observing the vehicle traveling on the shoulder at 76 mph in a 65 mph zone, according to court affidavits.

The vehicle pulled over near mile marker 41. The driver was unable to provide a driver’s license, vehicle registration or proof of insurance, court documents state.

A second state trooper arrived to assist with Spanish translation. The driver then exited the vehicle and was identified using mobile fingerprint scanning technology, according to court records.

Standardized field sobriety tests indicated the driver was not under the influence of alcohol. However, troopers located multiple open alcohol containers directly behind the driver’s seat, including a nearly full bottle of beer, according to the arrest affidavit.

Judge Mickey ordered Zepeda to pay $275 in fines, plus court costs, and credited him with two days served in custody.
