Lineworker Appreciation

(MORRILL, Neb.) — The Village of Morrill took time to once again show recognition to the amazing lineworkers serving our area with this excellent in-action photo.

From Village of Morrill

Thank a lineworker this week.

When storms hit or disaster strikes and the power goes out, they are the first responders, regardless of time or day. They put in countless hours maintaining the power lines that power our lives!

April 18th is Lineworker Appreciation Day, a time to honor the employees who do this vital work. The Village of Morrill has 2 Journeymen Linemen and 1 apprentice who do a dangerous job. And they sometimes do that job under the most extreme conditions – blazing heat, pouring rain, high winds and also frigid winter storms.

Take the time and join us in thanking lineworkers for all they do!

Morrill Water Issues

Saturday Jan 20, 2024 10:30 pm

The Village of Morrill is currently experiencing an issue with no water. They are working as quickly as they can to restore water. The entire town has no water service.

From the Village, “The Village of Morrill is aware of the issue with the water and we are working diligently with the regional water field to get the problem fixed. Due to the issue with the regional water field the water is going to have to be chlorinated until further notice.”

Morrill Water Tower

From The Village of Morrill

The Village is aware that there is water coming out of the water tower.

Apparently there is an issue on the Regional water field where a meter froze up so they let the water through to keep our tower full and it is now over full and that is what’s causing the water to run out.

We do not have any problem on our end.

2023; The Year in Review

A Quick History

The Scotts Bluff County Scanner went online originally over a decade ago when a local citizen asked Brian Hale at Hale Multimedia if it was possible to ‘rebroadcast’ the police scanner feed off his radio onto the internet for anyone to listen to for free.

After some research and some scanner and computer programming, they found a way to do it through a company called Broadcastify.

After securing the proper hardware, software, and licensing, the scanner began streaming in September of 2009, followed immediately by a Facebook page that grew to 3600 followers in the first two years.

Between 2009-2021, Brian was able to enlist the help of several volunteer admins. Some were really good, and some caused much trouble, but that is to be expected from a volunteer crew.

After a mysterious disappearance of our page in August 2018 (7.9k followers) we started over and built it back up to the original following in two years, then saw steady growth of around 3k per year since.

However, after seeing a decline in popularity and participation in 2020-2021, Brian and Andi determined it was time to devote more of a full-time effort to the cause, taking over management in 2022.

Brian and Andi Hale own and manage Hale Multimedia, Hale Broadcasting, and Digging Deeper Media and are the founders / owners of the scanner project. Hale Multimedia has been developing websites since 1998 with over 1,000 satisfied clients in 30 states.

A Few 2023 Highlights

  • Full Time Management; Brian and Andi Hale have always been involved, but took over the full-time management of the SBCO Scanner in October of 2022, monitoring situations 24/7, researching, writing articles, posting, spending 30+ hours a week on the project.
  • Full-time Volunteer Scanner Engineer Robert Chrysafis joined our team lending a much needed professional element to providing our signal to the public without interruption for any reason other than a power outage or equipment failure.
  • All previous records were broken in every category in 2023; reach, impressions, engagement, and growth of nearly 5,000 new followers in a single year, despite the scanner feed being encrypted by all local police and fire departments.
  • 1 Million People Reached; hard to imagine since we set out to reach 70,000 when we started. (SH reported daily reach in their prime)
  • Partnership with Nebraska Panhandle Weather Alerts and Road Conditions; one of the best business decision we made this year was to get to know and work closely with David Park Jr. Never judge a book by its cover. He will eat you alive, lol.
  • Small Business Saturdays; One of our most successful weekend ideas ever. This idea has helped hundreds of small businesses reach a large audience of really friendly people. 😀 Our 4 Quarterly Winners and Annual Champ are featured throughout.
  • Multiple Missing / Runaways Found; Our passion is to help others, and our training is in the area of youth ministry, so we work hard to bring these kids back safely.
  • Name Change; with thousands of followers and engagements all over the panhandle, we opted for a name change to better reflect the territory we cover.
  • New Website; with a new brand, comes a new website, and Hale Multimedia is always ready to help! http://www.panhandlescanner.com
  • New and Returning Sponsors; Not only are we picking up incredible new sponsors (The Detailing Company, Western Sleep Medicine), but we are also very happy to have major renewals from R&C Welding, AST, Stagecoach Stop, Kendell Henderson, Midwest Auto & Hampton Inn & Suites.
