Baby Carson’s Mother Pleads Not Guilty

(LEXINGTON, Neb.) — Jasmine Hopkins pleaded not guilty in her arraignment in Dawson County District Court Friday morning. The next step is discovery and depositions before a status hearing set for June 21 at 10 am.

Charges remain Child abuse/Class 2 injury concerning her son Carson from the time he was born (excluding the abuse that occurred at the hand of his father the day that caused the injuries that ultimately ended his life).

Judge Heng reduced Jasmine’s bond from ten percent of $250,000 to 10% of $100,000.

Early yesterday morning a vehicle accident, which was a semi-versus car accident, occurred on Highway 92. Scanner traffic indicated no major injuries. Around 6:40 pm on Wednesday, Scottsbluff Fire was dispatched to an apartment complex with smoke showing on West 19th Street in Scottsbluff. Crews actively searched for the cause and several hours into the incident, fire started showing from underneath and apartments floor from the basement in a void space that was only accessible from a small tunnel in the basement. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and very little property damage occurred. Thirteen residents were displaced for the night. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. In Alliance, the Box Butte County Sheriff's Office arrested Marilyn D. Wilcox in connection to an investigation into sexual assault of a minor. On Wednesday, the Scottsbluff Police Department received a call from the Omaha Police Department requesting assistance in serving for arrest warrants on a suspect. Omaha Police advised they had an active warrant for Benjamin Jordan Peterson, 43. They suspected he was staying at a hotel in Scottsbluff. Officers located the suspect vehicle at a hotel and made contact. Peterson was taken into custody and transported to the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center without incident. The warrants were for sexual assault on a child less than 12 years of age, sexual assault on a child first degree, sexual assault on a child third degree, and incest under 18 years of age. Sometimes it's hard to say it, but we must remind everyone that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

But even if I don’t understand them fully, these words offer hope. Because it means whatever may transpire God is still taking caring of me. Three hundred and sixty thousand people will arrive on this earth today. Some will depart. The other seven billion of us will go about our business—catching flights, rocking babies, showing up for work, and eating birthday cake. And God will watch over it all. Every coming and going. Every beginning and end. Every dream come true and heartbreak. He has done this for all of history. He is doing so today. He will continue to do so every day of your life. This is what’s true about your future, no matter what fear tries to tell you: God will be there. You will be loved. Nothing will be too much for you and Jesus to overcome together. You may not know exactly what’s ahead of you but you can be absolutely certain of Who is with you. You are not a random passenger, nameless and unknown in the crowd of humanity. And the One who travels with you isn’t afraid of your tears, overwhelmed by your struggles or hesitant about entering into your happiness and celebrations. We are beloved children of the God who breathed life into our lungs and who numbers every hair on our heads.
