Murder Indictment

In October 2022, the body of Jasmine Garnett, a 25-year-old from Columbus, was discovered in a field in Clay County, confirmed by the Nebraska State Patrol as a homicide. Now, eighteen months later, Anthony Mattison, aged 35 from Osceola, has been indicted for first-degree murder.

Garnett’s relatives mentioned Mattison as the last person seen with Jasmine roughly a month before her remains were located.

The Attorney General’s office also brought charges against Mattison for firearm-related offenses, including using a firearm to commit a felony, possessing a firearm as a prohibited individual, and improperly disposing of human remains. His initial court appearance in Clay County is set for May 14.

Additionally, Mattison faces charges in Hall and Platte counties, as well as attempted murder, attempted assault, making terroristic threats, and two weapon-related charges linked to an exchange of gunfire with Hastings police, occurring about ten days after Garnett went missing.

After being deemed unfit to stand trial for the Hastings charges, Mattison underwent treatment at the Lincoln Regional Center.

Last month, following an assessment of reports from the LRC, a judge declared Mattison competent to stand trial in that case.
