(SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.) — According to scanner traffic, Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department was paged to a small grass fire in a field near Loseke Rd and CR G Sunday afternoon, February 2, 2025. That, however, is not where things began. We quickly learned that it was much more than your average grass fire.

Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s office was involved with a high speed chase involving a stolen vehicle. This chase ended in a field near Loseke Road. It was confirmed that the fire started by the sheriff’s vehicle that came to rest on the dry grass.


Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department quickly extinguished the blaze dispite relentless winds in the direction of the nearby structures. No fire damage was sustained on any vehicles or structures.
County Deputies advised that the chase turned off of Highway 26 north onto County Road 19. When the vehicle reached County Road G, it jumped the ditch and came to rest in the field. The property owner informed Panhandle Scanner that this is the fifth vehicle that has come to rest on their property by jumping that ditch. Witnesses on scene were surprised that the vehicle didn’t sustain more damage.

The suspect then attempted to run and deputies pursued.
Authorities had to tase the individual in order to restrain and arrest the suspect, Pedro Morales Jr. An ambulance was called for the tased suspect. After being treated and released from the hospital, Morales was taken to jail.
Pedro Morales Jr., 25, faces the following charges;
- DUD
- Flight to avoid arrest
- Willfull reckless driving
- Obstructing
- PWID (Possession with intent to distribute)
- Possession controled substance X2
- Possession drug paraphernalia
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Poss of Marijuana

Morales is no stranger to the law. According to Nebraska DCS, he has a long history of felony arrests.

Further evidence from previous news stories indicate that Pedro “Peewee” Morales, Jr was arrested for felony offenses as an 18 year old in Scotts Bluff County in August of 2016.
