Amended Charges in June Rollover

(SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.) — The Scotts Bluff County Attorney has filed charges against Lexie Diamond Rzonca, 22, from Scottsbluff.

On June 17th, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the Scotts Bluff Communication Center received a phone call in which people could be heard screaming that someone was missing. Scottsbluff police and deputy responded to Highland Road and County Road 28.

According to scanner traffic, someone was saying they had an accident and couldn’t find their brother. This immediately made our heart sink knowing that he must have been completely ejected from the vehicle.

Upon the arrival of Sheriff Hackett, who was tasked with MVA reconstructive, observed a 2010 Nissan had wrecked and rolled 150+ feet past the road and landed in a ditch.

The passenger, a 15 year-old male, wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was found 50+ feet away from the wreckage. Hackett (using his training and 15 years experience) states the defendant’s car was travelling East bound on Highland Rd when her vehicle crossed the centerline. Her car ran off the roadway to the left and entered the ditch on the Northside of the road.

Both were transported to Regional West. The driver was cited for DWI and allowed to leave after being cleared by medical staff.

On July 15, David Eubanks, the Scotts Bluff County Attorney, filed charges against the driver for bodily injury while intoxicated and reckless driving. Reckless driving will be dismissed without prejudice. Defendant filed a motion to attend arrangements on July 28th remotely, where she pled not guilty. The defendant has since then waived her right to a preliminary hearing which was scheduled for August 4. Rzonca’s next appearance will be October 25, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. for pre-trial.

The county attorney has the ability to amend charges based on aggravating circumstances. Aggravating circumstances are factors that make a crime more serious, increasing the potential punishment a defendant receives. Even the involvement of a vulnerable victim could cause amended charges. On June 24, physicians confirmed complete paralysis for Luciano Angel, the juvenile victim. The county attorney office has also received subpoenaed evidence from Regional West including BAC, or Blood Alcohol Content.

The family of the victim has started a Go Fund Me, currently they are in need of a ramp and a walk in bath. A bracelet drive has also been organized by the Rzonca family, where proceeds go to help Nano’s family.
