(SIDNEY, Neb.) — The Sidney Public School District, the Sidney Police Department, and the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the investigation regarding the “swatting” calls received on February 26th and March 2nd.
There is currently no indication of any active or ongoing threats to our schools. The investigation has confirmed that these incidents were a targeted “swatting” hoax. While the nature of the calls required a high-level tactical response for the safety of our students, we can now state with confidence that the situation is resolved.
Through the combined efforts of local law enforcement and school administration, the source of the calls has been identified. Due to the age of the individual involved, their identity and specific personal details will not be released to the public.
However, we want to assure the community that there are significant consequences for these actions:
School District Action: The Sidney Public School District is pursuing strict disciplinary measures in accordance with district policy.
Legal Action: Law enforcement is moving forward with formal criminal charges through the appropriate court
While our staff and local law enforcement performed exceptionally well during these high-stress incidents, we are committed to constant improvement. After a thorough review of surveillance footage, radio logs, and interviews, we are taking the following proactive steps:
Joint Training: The Sidney Police Department and Cheyenne County Sheriff’s
Office will conduct specialized, joint training sessions alongside school faculty at each campus.
Safety Protocols: These drills will refine our coordinated response to ensure that our tactics and communication remain at the highest level.
We wish to remind parents that the safety of your children is our absolute priority. We want you to feel confident every morning when you drop your children off at school. By identifying the source of these calls and immediately launching updated training, we are ensuring that Sidney schools remain a safe environment for every student and staff member.
