Nebraska State Patrol Arrests Driver After Chase

(LEXINGTON, Neb.) — Sunday afternoon, persistent Nebraska State Patrol troopers were able to stop an individual driving at high speeds on I-80 in an attempt to avoid arrest.

Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from multiple other agencies, arrested a Colorado man after a pursuit Sunday afternoon.

Sunday afternoon, NSP received information about a reckless Chevrolet Impala driving eastbound on Interstate 80. At approximately 2:25 p.m., a trooper located the vehicle near mile marker 232, near Lexington. The Impala was traveling at over 100 miles per hour and was using the shoulder to pass other vehicles.

The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to yield. The trooper initiated a pursuit. The suspect vehicle continued eastbound at more than 100 miles per hour, continued driving on the shoulder, and evaded an attempt to deploy stop sticks near mile marker 248.

As the vehicle reached the Kearney area, another trooper successfully deployed stop sticks to bring the vehicle to a stop. The driver was then taken into custody without further incident. Buffalo County Deputies and Kearney Police Officers assisted with the arrest.

The driver, Donald Carpenter, 30, of Julesburg, Colorado, was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and an open alcohol container. He was lodged in Dawson County Jail.
