Panhandle Fireworks Decisions

Since the Nebraska Panhandle has been hit with several big fires and severe drought, many cities and counties have implemented higher restrictions for this fireworks season. We have compiled a list of these temporary orders here.

FULL BAN

(ALLIANCE, Neb.) — At its June 16, 2026 meeting, the Alliance City Council voted to ban the sale and discharge of fireworks within the city due to ongoing drought conditions and increased fire danger. The council expressed hope that conditions will still allow the community’s public fireworks display to take place on July 4th. Violation of the fireworks ban may result in a citation carrying a fine of up to $1,000.00.

(BOX BUTTE COUNTY, Neb.) — Box Butte Co. Commissioners signed a resolution to BAN the sale & discharge of fireworks. Due to the ongoing Red Flag Warning & Dry conditions, due to the recent “South Fork Fire” Wildfire, it was necessary to come to a resolution placing the ban.

(CHADRON, Neb.) — The City of Chadron made it official by banning the use and sale of fireworks for this summer at their city council meeting on June 15th. 

(CRAWFORD, Neb.) — Crawford City Council met on June 17, 2026, which approved Resolution 2026-16 Banning the sale of and igniting of fireworks within city limits, excluding the “Mr. Fireworks” display following the rodeo July 4 with stipulations of the department being deployed and winds exceeding 15 MPH. The ban carries a $1,000 fine per occurrence of igniting fireworks.

(HEMMIMGFORD, Neb.) — The Hemingford Village Board passed an ordinance and resolution officially banning the sale and discharge of all fireworks within village limits for the 2026 season due to severe drought and elevated fire danger. Violators can face fines of up to $500 per day.

(KIMBALL, Neb.) — The City Council passed an ordinance prohibiting the discharge of fireworks . Discharging fireworks can result in a fine of $500 for the first offense, and up to $1,000 during an active Red Flag warning.

(KIMBALL COUNTY, Neb.) – Kimball County has voted to BAN fireworks this year of 2026, with an also active burn ban this year due to dry conditions.

(POTTER, Neb.) — The Village of Potter Board of Trustees voted to BAN the discharge of fireworks withing the village limits for this year. They also voted on June 9, 2026 to keep the outdoor burning ban in place, including fire pits and weed burners until further notice.

The towns of HAY SPRINGS, HARRISON and SOUIX COUNTY has also banned the use of fireworks at this point.

RESTRICTED USE

(GERING, Neb.) — City of Gering officials release a notice on June 12, 2026 stating that the City council ammended the fireworks ordinance for this year only. Fireworks may be ignited and/or discharged within the city limits from June 29 through July 4th at 11:59 pm. They are also restricint the time to be from 8 am to 10:30 pm and untill midnight on the 4th.

City of Gering officials announced today that the Allred Brothers Fireworks Show will be held at Five Rocks Amphitheater on July 3, 2026 as originally planned, weather and other conditions permitting.

(LYMAN, Neb.) — The Village of Lyman passed a Resolution at the regular meeting Wednesday the 17th of June stating that fireworks will only be allowed on July 3-4 from dusk til midnight on both days. There will not be any allowed in the Village at any other times or any other days.

(MINATARE, Neb.) — On June 9, 2026, Minatare City Council passed a temporary ordinance restricting fireworks discharge to ONLY July 2-4, 2026 from 8 am – 10 pm with an extention untill midnight on the 4th. This restriction is only for the current year.

(MORRILL, Neb.) — Regarding Fireworks for the Village of Morrill for 2026, the board passed the following resolution at the meeting on June 10, 2026. For the year 2026, Fireworks may only be legally discharged within the Village between the hours of 9:00 AM and 10 PM on June 28, 2026, to July 2, 2026; between the hours of 9:00 AM and 12:00 midnight on July 3 and July 4, 2026.

(SIDNEY, Neb.) — Sidney Nebraska city council voted tonight to allow fireworks between July 1st at 8:00 a.m. to July 5th at 1:00 a.m. on June 23, 2026.

NO CHANGES

(SCOTTS BLUFF COUNTY, Neb.) — At the County Commissioners meeting on June 15, 2026, Scotts Bluff County Commissioners voted 3-2 to REVERSE their decision on the use of fireworks & discharge IN RURAL area(s) due to dry conditions, exceptional drought conditions, rapid fire ignition. The discharge of fireworks remains permitted for the Independence Day holiday season.

(GORDON, Neb.) — Due to dry conditions the city will not participate in holding the 250th celebration with a fireworks display! The Gordon City Council voted 3-1 to take no action on a full restriction, however, allowing both the sale and use of fireworks to continue within city limits in accordance with the town .

(LINGLE, Neb.) — The mayor, fire chief and emergency management coordinator for the Town of Lingle decided to permit fireworks without any change to the current ordinance.

LODGEPOLE, RUSHVILLE & GORDON also have not made any changes for the current year.

The County Commissioners of DAWES and SHERIDAN COUNTIES have recommended that residents not use fireworks, but have not taken any formal action.
