York DUI Arrest Follows Traffic Stop

(YORK, Neb.) — A York woman was arrested on drug and driving under the influence charges after a traffic stop Aug. 30 near the 2100 block of South Lincoln Avenue.

According to the York County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy stopped a vehicle for a vehicle defect violation and observed multiple indicators of impairment during the traffic stop.

A subsequent search reportedly revealed a loose hydrocodone pill, a Schedule II controlled substance, and marijuana.

The driver, identified as Brooke L. Turner of York, was arrested and transported to the sheriff’s office, where she underwent a drug influence evaluation conducted by a certified drug recognition expert.

The expert determined Turner was under the combined influence of alcohol, a narcotic analgesic and cannabis and was not capable of safely operating a vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Turner was lodged at York County Corrections on charges of possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of drugs, second offense, and possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana.

The sheriff’s office reminded drivers that prescription medications can impair a person’s ability to safely operate a vehicle, particularly when combined with alcohol. The office also advised people not to use prescription medication after the prescription has expired.

Turner is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

An Alliance woman was arrested Wednesday after fleeing from police during a vehicle pursuit that ended with four children inside the vehicle, according to the Police Department in Alliance. Officers were initially called to the Dollar General at 1229 West 3rd Street at approximately 6.30 p.m. on the 9th for a reported disturbance, while officers were investigating, the vehicle involved returned to the area. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle using emergency lights and verbal commands, but the driver fled. Officers later located the vehicle traveling eastbound on West 3rd Street and attempted another traffic stop. The driver again failed to stop, prompting a pursuit. Reaching 55 miles an hour before pulling into a driveway in the 600 block of Sweetwater Avenue, officers conducted a felony traffic stop and arrested the 24-year-old Lylian Rose Star of Alliance. Four children ages 9, 9, 8, and less than a year were found inside the vehicle. She was booked on suspicion of four counts of felony intentional child abuse with no injury, felony operation of a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, four counts of transporting a child while intoxicated, DUI, resisting arrest, driving while revoked, reckless driving, and unlawful acts related to drugs. Chief Leavitt said this incident could have ended very differently. "Driving impaired is dangerous under any circumstances." All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
