Drugs and Weapon Bring Year in Jail

(GERING, Neb.) — A Gering man has been sentenced in Scotts Bluff County District Court following a January traffic stop that led to the discovery of methamphetamine and a weapon.

Richard Allan Endicott, 44, was sentenced Sept. 25 by District Court Judge Leo Dobrovolny to 340 days in jail and one year of probation.

Scottsbluff police arrested Endicott Jan. 29 after stopping his vehicle on South Beltline Highway East for missing license plates. A search of the vehicle yielded approximately 25 grams of methamphetamine, an open alcohol container and a knife with a blade longer than 4 inches.

Endicott was originally charged with distribution of a controlled substance, a Class 1D felony. Under a plea agreement, he pleaded no contest to reduced charges of:

  • Possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine, a Class 4 felony
  • Possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, a Class 3 felony

An open-container infraction was dismissed.

Judge Dobrovolny sentenced Endicott to 340 days in jail on the weapon charge, with 240 days credited for time served, and one year of probation on the drug charge.

Endicott must report to a probation officer upon his release and pay applicable court fees and drug-testing costs.
