Drug Case Moves to District Court

(GERING, Neb.) — A Scottsbluff man has been bound over to District Court following a traffic stop last week that led to a felony drug charge.

Jeremiah D. Smith, 49, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Scotts Bluff County Court. County Judge Kristen D. Mickey bound Smith over on a Class 4 felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.

An infraction charge of possessing drug paraphernalia was dismissed without prejudice on the state’s motion.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, a Scottsbluff police officer initiated a traffic stop on Smith’s 2001 white Chevrolet Tahoe Sept. 21, 2026, near 12th Avenue and East Overland after observing an improper turn signal.

During a consensual search of the vehicle, officers located two glass pipes containing a burnt white residue that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Bond was set at $5,000, 10%.

Smith is scheduled for arraignment in District Court Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, at 1 p.m.
