Shocking Corn Harvest

(MCBAIN, Mich.) – A man named JP of Luck 7 Dairy in McBain, Michigan had a run in with a power line. Here’s the full story from their facebook page.

Welp, the 2024 Corn Harvest did not start out as planned. We thank God for His protection yesterday. JP accidentally hit a power line with the arm on the chopper. By the grace of God he is able to be here today.

Friends, when I say it’s a miracle he’s alive, it’s no joke. He hit a power line that had 140,000w going through it. When the tires exploded on the chopper from the electrical current and it was engulfed in flames, he had a choice, neither of which were guaranteed he’d live. He jumped from the railing which is about 10’h on the chopper and landed in the corn. As soon as he touched the ground he was electrocuted. He was shocked so bad he couldn’t move his legs, and then he crawled as far as he could until he wasn’t getting shocked anymore by the ground.

Tell your kids to pay attention during science class. Electricity is nothing to take for granted. Aside from being very sore today, and somewhat in shock (no pun intended!!), he is alive and limping from a sore heel.

So many people have reached out. Thank you for all the prayers and support! We greatly appreciate it! There were three county fire departments there to put the fire out! THANK YOU!!!! Burnips Equipment had a replacement chopper there before the fire was out. THANK YOU!! A special thanks to everyone at the farm that went into action and got things done that needed to be done.

We sincerely apologize to the many people and farms that were affected by the power outage.

This will definitely be a day to remember.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: if you MUST exit a vehicle after hitting a powerline (stay in it if it is safe) you must jump as far as you can with your feet together WITHOUT falling over and then either hop away like a bunny rabbit keeping your feet together and not falling over or shuffle/sliding your feet on the ground keeping them close together. Reason being is that the voltage is at different amounts as you go away from the vehicle (like ripples in the water when you throw a rock in the water) when you step or crawl your feet and/or hands space apart your creating a difference in potential and the current travels to that difference through you. This should be taught in drivers training.
