Mitchell Pilot Light Fire

(MITCHELL, Neb.) — Tuesday at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke in a house after lighting a pilot light on a water heater.

When crews arrived it was determined that the insulation within the water heater had caught fire. The insulation inside the water heater was extinguished after the unit was removed from the home.

After the water heater was taken care of it was found that the floor under the water heater was also on fire. Once everything was fully extinguished crews returned to the station around 7:00p.m.

MVFD responded with two trucks and five personnel.
