(MORRILL, Neb.) — On Monday September 22, 2025, Kelly Mason Davis appeared before Judge Worden for the charges of Domestic Assault and use of a weapon to commit an assault. Davis, who appeared via zoom from the detention center, plead not guilty on all charges and will be seen again on October 6, 2025 for a preliminary hearing. Ms. Davis stated during the court appearance that because of her position as a Social worker for the cancer treatment center at Regional West, she will be hiring her own lawyer. Judge Worden has appointed a public defender in her case until she does so.
According to affidavits written by Deputy Kirch, in the early hours of September 20, 2025, after a night of drinking, Ms. Davis and the victim came home arguing. Eventually, the victim was able to get away and lay down on the couch. That’s when allegedly, Ms. Davis “came out of nowhere and held a pistol to (his) head.” He recalls hearing a click sound but there was no clip in the pistol. When he attempted to get up, Davis struck him in the head with the pistol. Deputy Kirch noted a laceration above the victim’s right eyebrow.
The victim was able to obtain the pistol from Davis, but she quickly ran to the bedroom to acquire a .22 revolver. The victim noticed the revolver was missing the cylinder for the ammunition. He confirmed the cylinder was stored with the ammunition before taking both firearms outside while he called 911 and waited for law enforcement.
When law enforcement made contact with Davis, she was laying down in a spare bedroom. She was arrested without further incident and transported to the detention center.
