Collision Involving Young E-Bike Rider

(ALLIANCE, Neb.) — Local officers were called to a collision this morning involving an E-Bike and a motor vehicle.

This morning at approximately 10:19 a.m., officers responded to a crash near 7th Street and Toluca Avenue involving an electric bicycle and a passenger vehicle.

An 11-year-old juvenile on an e-bike entered the roadway and traveled the wrong direction on a one-way street before moving into the path of a vehicle that had the right of way. The driver was not impaired and no charges are anticipated.

The juvenile sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.

In the past week alone, officers have contacted or stopped juveniles operating e-bikes on seven separate occasions for reckless behavior involving roadway violations and unsafe riding.

This incident was preventable.

E-bikes are not toys. They must follow traffic laws. Reckless riding puts young riders and others at serious risk.

Parents are urged to take responsibility for knowing where and how their children are riding. Riders are expected to obey the rules of the road at all times.

Police Chief David Leavitt stated: “We are very fortunate this did not end more seriously. These incidents are becoming far too common, and they are preventable with better awareness and supervision.”

Fire is frightening, and Nebraska is on fire again. A great resource to track all those wildfires is the WatchDuty app. You can access that straight from our website at panhandlescanner.com, under the Resources tab. Please continue to pray for our firemen and women who are out there on the front lines, and all of those involved in these Nebraska wildfires. But wildfires aren't the only things that are burning in Nebraska. Three structure fires happened in the last 24 hours. In Alliance, a 24-year-old male suffered third-degree burns to his face, neck, shoulders, back, torso, and bilateral arms. The man was transported to the burn center via helicopter. That happened Wednesday evening around 8 p.m. And then later, at around 10:20, all area fire departments were paged out to the Lake Alice area, when scanner traffic indicated station coverage needed and mutual aid requested for an ongoing structure fire at Lake Alice. Unfortunately, that home was a total loss. And then just after midnight, scanner traffic indicated mutual aid requested for a Bayard fire. And unfortunately, Peggy, Chelsea and Isabelle Nuss' home was a total loss. They are in immediate need of clothing and shoes. The Bayard Senior Center is the drop-off spot. Hearts Ability to Receive the Word (Untangled From Doubt) - Elevate Your Day with Andi and Brian Hale

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. – Proverbs 4:23 NIV Have you ever wondered why we are told to guard our hearts above all else? I used to think guarding my heart meant not opening my heart to someone who wasn’t trustworthy. But I have since discovered that it is not about keeping people out, but about what I allow to enter my heart. Our hearts are the very seat of our being. It is the meeting point between soul and spirit. As I delved deep into Proverbs 4:23 in my Strong-Lite concordance, it became clear to me how the heart creates the boundaries within which we function. In essence, we determine the extent to which God can move within us and through us by the condition of our hearts. Jesus illustrated this when he shared the parable of the sower. You may be familiar with the story. The sower scattered seeds on different types of soil. The soils that were harder, or full of stones and thorns, did not produce a harvest. It was the good soil, the soft and receptive soil, that offered the right environment for the seed to take root and produce a crop. “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no roots, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown.” – Matthew 13:18-23, NIV The condition of our hearts determines whether we receive the incorruptible seed of the Word and allow it to produce the Salvation we need. In the first chapter of Luke, we have the same angel bringing the Word (a promise of supernatural birth) to two people–Mary and Zecharia. They both asked the same question: “How could this be?” But only one of them had a heart able to receive the promise. Gabriel had to shut Zecharia’s mouth so that he could not destroy the seed of this promise with his words of doubt and unbelief. (See Luke 1:11-20). So, dear friend, may I ask you to stop for a moment and consider this–what is the condition of your heart? Have you hardened certain pieces of your heart because of disappointment or pain from the past? Are there some heavy rocks or thorny weeds keeping God’s promises from taking root and producing the life you have been praying for? Take a moment to invite the Holy Spirit to show you where the soil of your heart needs regeneration. Allow Him to gently remove the debris keeping the Word from growing in your heart.

An Impossible Situation (Untangled From Doubt) - Elevate Your Day with Andi and Brian Hale

For nothing will be impossible with God. – Luke 1:37 ESV Has your heart ever been tangled up in doubt and unbelief? You want to stay in faith, but you just can’t seem to marry up the hours of praying and declaring with the results you are seeing in the flesh? When you find yourself without a job and you just don’t have enough money to make it to the end of the month. When you are sitting in the doctor’s office and receive the diagnosis with the caveat that there is no cure. When you get a phone call telling you your teenager who you have been praying for has been arrested for another DUI. Have you found yourself shouting at God in sheer frustration: “You said nothing is impossible, Father! What is going on here? Where is the breakthrough we have been praying for?” It was in a moment of frustration that I cried out to God. I got out my Amplified Classic Edition and pointed to Luke 1:37 saying: “Look, Father! You said nothing is impossible for you. Why are we not seeing breakthrough in this situation?“ The Holy Spirit gently nudged me to look at the second part of this verse: “…for no word from God is ever without power or impossible of fulfillment.” Revelation flooded my heart in that instant. The answer I was looking for was contained within these words. I began studying it closer and discovered three keys that untangled me from doubt. What Does The Resurrection Mean? (He is Risen) - Elevate Your Day with Andi and Brian Hale

From He Is Risen! The Reality of the Resurrection by Daniel Kolenda And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. – 1 Corinthians 15:14-20 NIV In 1 Corinthians 15, the Apostle Paul, himself a witness of the resurrected Christ, imagined the implications of a reality in which Jesus has not risen. It’s a chilling passage that paints a picture of a bleak and hopeless world. He said that if Jesus is still dead, preaching and faith are useless, the disciples are false witnesses, we are all still in our sins, the dead are gone forever, and those who believe are the most pitiful of all people. But then, in Verse 20, Paul changed the tone with this amazing declaration that makes all the difference: “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead” (NIV). Early Christians would greet one another with Paul’s words! In place of “hello,” a believer would say, “Christ is risen,” and the other would respond, “He is risen indeed!” Jesus Christ did rise from the grave! He is risen indeed! The resurrection was God’s supernatural vindication of what Jesus did for us. It means Jesus is exactly who He claimed to be—the Son of God, sent into the world so we could have forgiveness, full and free. The resurrection means God accepted Jesus’ death in our place on the cross. It means Jesus was ultimately victorious over sin, death, hell, and the grave. Because death couldn’t hold Him, because sin has no power over Him, and because Jesus is alive, we have great hope in Him! The Bible says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3). That hope is “an anchor of the soul” (Hebrews 6:19).
