Law to Limit Encryption?

Before we go any further, we must tell you about the cute photo of the new concealed weapon at the Tiverton Police Department. K9 BLUE is the little superhero in training at the department. We look forward to following Blue and Sgt Huber!

Now, for our article at hand…

A bold move by California Legislature to limit encryption has been set into place by Senator Josh Becker.

His first attempt, SB 1000, fell short last year, but he revived the effort with SB 719.

The difference in this bill is that it’s not asking for a ban on encryption.

He did a smart thing in our opinion and really limited the scope this time. This one is simply asking that law enforcement do not encrypt all communication, only sensitive information, and only allow authorize media to have access.

View the history of the Bill or view the full text here.

We’ll follow this story as it develops.

Thank you for the heads up, Dawson County Scanner, and the cute photo was shared by our friends at #BackTheBlue.
