(SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.) — Local patrons noticed a sign on the door of the local Dollar Tree store and asked us if we could investigate.
UPDATE from Store Manager’s wife, “My husband is the store manager. They are not closing. It is an Osha violation to not have functioning bathrooms for employees. They attempted to take care of the plumbing the first day, but they did not have a long enough snake as they believe it may be in the main line. With it being right before the weekend, there was nothing that would be done. They did check the drain with a camera and will be doing some work today to possibly put in new pipes and deal with the issue. It is projected for Dollar Tree to be reopened by the weekend.”
Projected to be open by the weekend.

Panhandle Scanner learned that many Dollar Tree stores, as well as their sister Family Dollar stores are also closing this year.
According to CBS News, Dollar Tree announced that it is closing 600 of its Family Dollar store locations in 2024. On top of that, the discount retailer also plans to close an additional 370 Family Dollar stores, plus 30 Dollar Tree locations over the next few years, at the end of their leases.
Others recalled the Gering store having a similar sign on it before it closed for business, questioning the validity of a month-long plumbing issue.
Another scanner insider who pays close attention to what’s happening in the community said, “I think that end of the mall or maybe the whole mall has bad plumbing. I know Hobby Lobby has had issues also. They had porta potties outside for a while.”
A reminder from TJ, Mall Maintenance Supervisor, “Please be aware all the pipes were put in back in 1984, so there is always going to be problems with infrastructure that old.”
It’s impossible to operate without plumbing, so we hope their issues can be resolved quickly.
We also hope is that people have read this article all the way to the end so that they don’t take the headline and cry, “scanner said Dollar Tree is closing.”
The Dollar Tree location at Monument Mall was announced in February 2019, and now, just five years later, we could be losing it… or they may just be having plumbing issues.
Time will tell.
